I'm not sure if this is an emergency...
How do I know if I need an Emergency Dentist?
Not sure when to call an emergency dentist? It's important to recognize which dental situations require immediate attention and which can wait. Although there isn't a strict line between urgent and non-urgent treatments, addressing dental issues swiftly is crucial. Putting off treatment can lead to more serious and complex problems later.
If you’re experiencing unexplained tooth pain, it's essential to seek help quickly. Tooth pain isn’t something you should ignore—it can disrupt eating, sleeping, and your daily comfort. An emergency dentist can promptly diagnose the issue and get you the right treatment, so you don’t have to suffer.
Remember, when in doubt, it's better to consult with an emergency dentist sooner rather than later. They can provide guidance on whether your symptoms require immediate care or if they can be scheduled for a later date.

If you cracked a tooth:

3: Avoid eating on the cracked tooth and stick to soft foods.

If you have abscesses:
1: Rinse your mouth with a mild salt-water solution several times a day to reduce pain and draw the pus to the surface.
2: Do not attempt to pop or squeeze the abscess.
3: See a dentist as soon as possible. Abscesses can lead to more serious infections if not professionally treated.

If you're experiencing tooth pain:
1: Rinse your mouth with warm water to clean it out.
2: Gently use dental floss to remove any food caught between your teeth.
3: Do not put aspirin or any other painkiller against the gums near the aching tooth as it may burn the gum tissue.

If a filling or crown has broken or shattered:
1: Remove any pieces of the filling or crown from your mouth to avoid swallowing or choking on them.
2: If the tooth is sensitive without its crown or filling, cover the top of the tooth with dental cement (available at drugstores) to protect it.
3: Avoid using the affected tooth to chew.
4: See your dentist as soon as possible to repair the tooth.

In case you lose a tooth or it becomes badly damaged:
If you lost a permanent tooth due to trauma:
1: Pick up the tooth by the crown (the part that is usually exposed in the mouth), not by the root.
2: If dirty, gently rinse the tooth with water. Do not scrub it or remove any attached tissue fragments.
3: If possible, try to reinsert the tooth into the socket. If that's not possible, place the tooth in a small container of milk (or water if milk is not available).
4: Get to a dentist immediately. Reimplanted teeth have the highest success rates if returned to their socket within one hour of being knocked out.
